Missing your child? What is to be done?

Missing your child? What is to be done?

One of the shocking events of my teenage days refers to a missing incident of one of my friends. He was gamesome and cute in appearance even at 13. I can recollect the awe-struck countenances of his parents and relatives. He returned after a week and the police department could not bag any credit for his coming back. He returned alone. He was totally exhausted. He was in a state of trauma and was taken to the psycho-counselor immediately. He was sexually abused.
You may find images of the missing children in the newspapers. You may find crying appeal of the parents addressed to their children in the newspapers. But people in general seem to be least concerned. The nightmarish experiences of the parents and relatives of the missing children are not generally shared by the greater part of the society.
In the USA 800000 children are reported missing in every year and more than 2000 every day. In India the figure is utterly terrifying. It is more than 1000000 in a year. This is to mean that in every second at least 30 children are missing. A great number of the missing kids are not reported and registered. Thousands of children are reported missing in our world and most of them are not traced out ever.
Many of them leave their home when they are persecuted in the family and when they do not feel touch of love. Feuding parents sometimes find their children missing. Many children hail from very poor family and they do not even get food or shelter. They are to ignore the family bondage for survival only. A good number of kids are kidnapped by notorious people who demands huge ransom or enslave the little souls or abuse them sexually or even slaughter them cruelly.
Accounts of missing children are commonly horrible. Still these accounts show us how little we love our kids. But one should not sit idly when it is learned that a child is missing. There is always a chance to a kid’s safe recovery. In such a situation it is a race against time. Time is very important. With the passage of time the chance for recovery becomes less. Hence one must be immediately active to begin the search. At the same time all the relatives of the locality and of the distant places must be intimated.
Photograph of the child is urgently needed. Photograph of the recent time will do well. Multiple copies of the photograph are required. It is better to have photographs of the child in different poses.
It is highly important to contact the police and register a diary. The police must be informed of all the features of the child and addresses of all his relatives and friends. This must be done without any delay. The police will find it difficult to trace out the child if a few hours are allowed to pass meanwhile.
Media must be contacted simultaneously. Photographs and other details of the missing child must be given to the local and national newspapers and to the television channels. There are many websites and their services must be sought. There are a few organizations sincerely working for the benefit of the children and specially the missing children. They have precious experiences and they must be contacted.
And in order to materialize a child’s safe recovery one must not lose heart. One must contact the police station centers of media several times. The authority may become impatient and may feel such approach disgusting. Still what else can be expected from the concerned parents in such a situation?
